Helping a family member manage day-to-day life can be overwhelming — logistically and emotionally.
Beth Suereth, our family caregiving partner, can help. Together, you and Beth can create a customized care plan for you, the family caregiver.
Your plan will reflect Beth's experience as a care manager and as a family caregiver herself. You'll get logistical help with:
-
Finding a balance between your needs and those of the person you're caring for,
-
Developing a family emergency plan,
-
Creating a support network, and
-
Understanding how to manage a loved one's hospital stay, prepare to provide care at home afterward, and spot red flags during recovery to prevent them from escalating into readmission to the hospital.

You'll also get warm emotional support that will help you:
-
Gain much-needed peace of mind as you face the difficult and conflicting feelings that arise during caregiving,
-
Manage stress in a way that works for your unique situation, and
-
Prepare for and navigate daily worries, life-altering decisions, the shock that accompanies health crises, end-of-life care options, finding meaning near the end of life, and more.

Create an end-of-life plan with Dr. Sarah Todd
Healthcare providers use every means to prolong life unless they have a legal document that provides different direction.
To ensure your family member's values and wishes are honored by healthcare providers in an emergency or near the end of life, talk with our board-certified emergency medicine physician, Dr. Sarah Todd.
Sarah can talk compassionately with you and/or your loved one at length about the choices that are available and how to evaluate them — given her experiences in the emergency department.
Together, you can develop a plan and create legal documents reflecting the values, wishes, and choices of the person you're caring for.
Then you can share the plan with family members, to set expectations before an emergency or the end of life. You can also share copies with your loved one's primary care doctor and local hospital and keep a copy on hand at home.

You may well find that you want to make a plan for yourself, to honor your wishes too.
Schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Sarah Todd to discuss making an end-of-life plan. We think of it as a "rest-of-life" plan.
